Tom Cruise paid tribute to his peak pistol Val Kilmer, who died earlier this week at the age of 65.
Appearing at Cinemaacon in Las Vegas, Cruise led the crowd at the Kolosseum Theater at the moment of silence to “honor my dear friend, Val Kilmer.”
“I can’t tell you how much I admired his work, how much I thought about him as a human being and how grateful I was to be honored when he joined a top gun,” Cruise said about Kilmer, who played his rival Ice Man in 1986.
Continued Top Gun 2022: Maverick marked the last movie role of Kilmer. Kilmer, also known for his roles playing Batman and Jim Morrison at the door, died on Tuesday night in Los Angeles.
In Las Vegas, Cruise tilted his head in the cavernous theater, which was full of cinema owners and others working in the industry.
“Thank you, Val – I wish you well on your next trip,” Cruise said after that.
Cruise spoke during the presentation of Paramount Pictures at CinemaCon. He also showed a trailer of the mission: impossible – final computation, which will be released later this year, and honored the film director Christopher Mcquarrie, who was named director of the year of CinemaCon.
The trailer showed Cruise, who is known for doing her cascades, in a series of scenes full of actions – on combat planes, in explosions and wings walking vintage by plane.
While Hollywood paid tribute to Kilmer, Cruise was one of the few stars waiting to comment publicly to the death of the actor.
The star voted how much he enjoyed working with Kilmer. Said Jimmy Kimmel Live! That he cried that he had set him up for a top gun: Maverick.
“I was crying, I cried. I became emotional,” Cruise said in a Kilmer’s work show. “He is such a great actor. I love his work.”
Kilmer’s family told us the media that he died after he came down with pneumonia. The actor had two tracheotomy during throat cancer treatment.
The procedures forced him to use the voice box to talk, and in the movie 2022 he was enrolled on the screen to communicate with Cruise’s character. Towards the end of their scene together, Kilmer’s Iceman gets up from his chair and roughly says Cruise: “Navy needs Maverick.”
The two of them hug, and then Iceman is having fun, examining the cruise of who is a better pilot.
