Tim Allen revealed if there are any plans for the ex Home improvement costar Jonathan Taylor Thomas to appear in his new sitcom Changing gears.
“Anything is possible,” Allen, 71, said exclusively to latest edition Us Weekly. “He just came back (to the last episode we shot). He showed up on set.”
Allen said he would like nothing more than that shares the screen with Thomas43, again, adding, “He is literally my child. I raised that child for eight years on home improvement. These are all my children and I feel a little sick about this.”
Before leading the ABC lineup Changing gearsstarred Allen on Home improvement from 1991 to 1999 Thomas, Patricia Richardson, Taran Noah Smith, Zachery Ty Bryan, Richard Karn and Debbe Dunning. Thomas left the series early to focus on school and eventually decided to do so completely withdraw from action.

Allen and Thomas reunited on screen for four episodes Last Man Standing. Thomas also directed three episodes of the sitcom. While Thomas stayed out of the public eye, Allen continued to find success as America’s favorite sitcom dad with his roles as Mike Baxter in Last Man Standingwhich lasted from 2011 to 2021, i now enters Matt Parker Changing gears.
“(My ex-wife on screen) Nancy Travis once she told me (something) after I called her during Last Man Standing. I said, ‘Did you talk to the girls (who play our daughters) over the summer?’ Then there’s this long pause and she’s like, ‘Tim, these aren’t our daughters and I’m not really your wife,'” he joked. “She was so wonderful about it, because sometimes when they were having problems on the show, I’d say, ‘How do you think they feel?’ And she would reply, ‘Tim, they’re actors. We just read (what’s on the page, but) it’s not really that sad.’”
On Changing gearsAllen plays a widowed father opposite the estranged daughter he plays Kat Dennings. The duo talked about how they were “immediately” made a connection after being included in the series.
“The editor wanted to see how we got along. It never stopped. Kismet was crazy. We were both born on the same day – many years apart,” he said Our. “We are different in so many ways. But our take on comedy is very similar. She annoys me and I’m not easy that way. Kat can (deliver these lines) with a straight face. Her anger – on which she played 2 broke girls — is very similar to the sharpness that Mike Baxter might go into now.”
Allen continued: “When we fight on screen, it’s funny that we interrupt each other and it just comes naturally. I don’t know where it comes from. I already adore this person. She and her husband (Andrew WK) are great people. It’s like I’ve known her for freaking years, like most of this cast.”
Dennings, 38, felt the same way her relationship with Allen.
“It clicked pretty quickly. We had lunch after I accepted the role and I immediately felt that I could trust him for some reason,” she said in an exclusive interview for Our. “And it opened up to me very quickly. So I (was) like, ‘OK, this guy’s like letting me in.'”
Confidence on set allowed Dennings and Allen to improve their comedy skills. “It felt very organic,” Dennings recalled. “And as (filming) progressed, our scenes are so funny, if I may say so. Fights are my favorite scenes because I have no fear. There is no fear for any of us. We’re absolutely going after it and it’s a lot of fun.”

While Allen enjoyed the work Changing gears, he wasn’t sure at first he would return to sitcoms, talk Our“It was a complicated decision.
