Mr. Wactor’s work and presence touched the lives of many, and our hearts go out to his family, friends and the entire community as they mourn this devastating loss.”
In May 2024, the news appeared that Wactor died at the age of 37 after the shooting in Los Angeles. According to Wactor’s mother, he was shot after an alleged altercation with three men who were trying to steal his car’s catalytic converter.
Wactor was allegedly with a co-worker at the time of the incident and tried to protect her from injury.
“We’re Southerners, born and raised, and we’d never let a woman walk to their car by herself,” Wactor’s brother, Grant, he said Daily Mail later that month. “He ran into them and thought they were towing his truck. So he said something to the guys, like, ‘Hey, are you pulling?'”
According to Grant, Wactor tried to protect his colleague from the apparent attackers.
“And then when he turned around, he saw what was happening and left his colleague behind. And that’s when they shot him,” Grant said.
After Barceleau and Estrada were accused of murder in August 2024, Wactor’s mother released a statement that she shared with Us Weekly.
“It is a great birthday present for Johnny,” Scarlett told Ourwhose son would have turned 38 on August 31, 2024. “I hope (the suspects) will be tried at the federal level. I’m still hoping and praying for a stiffer sentence… I know (the police) don’t want them to go either.”
