Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis mocked Teofimo Lopez, reacting to his skit on Friday. Teofimo played a street urchin on the sidewalk holding a beggar’s cup and trying to get money from people passing by. He wants to terminate his contract with Top Rank because he feels he is not making the big money he should be getting.
Teofimo was left out in the cold and didn’t make the big money that Gervonta has during his career. He is bitter about it and seemingly indescribably desperate. The real problem is himself.
New York native Lopez has looked awful in most of his fights over the past four years, and it’s become increasingly clear that the fans and Top Rank have done him wrong. When he had the size advantage, Teofimo looked great fighting smaller fighters at 135. Lopez was typical weight bully when he fought in the lightweight division.
Since moving up to 140 and facing the B-level guys, Teofimo has proven to be that the average fighter who lacks mental strength when confronted with adversity. Lopez doesn’t judge what kind of dough Ryan Garcia and Tank Davis are making.
Davis showed an old post from Lopez in which he said he would be the “highest paid” lightweight fighter. That never happened. He came down a weight class and didn’t make the big bucks at 140 that Tank and Ryan Garcia have.
Teofimo seems miserable. He wants to leave Top Rank because he thinks he can make more money fighting another promoter.
Teofim was defeated by George Kambosos, who was involved in two controversial fights that many fans believe he should have lost, and he looks miserable. Lopez is now trying to break his contract with Top Rank to join fighters making huge money with other promoters, fighting on Riyadh cards.
Changing the promoter probably won’t help Teofim. His main problems are lack of talent and mental strength to beat the best. The loss to Kambosos showed that Lopez could not handle things under pressure.
Lopez’s fights with Jamaine Ortiz, Sandor Martin and Steve Claggett further reinforced the belief that he is not equipped to fight at a high level. In the eyes of the fans, he should have lost to Jamaine and Sandor.
Ryan’s net worth is 50 million dollarsbut he never won the world title. Tank also made a lot of money. However, it doesn’t look like Teofimo will ever make the money that Davis and Garcia have. He hasn’t been consistent enough in his career since 2021, and his performances are getting worse.
