The police have been seen collecting evidence in Mulhouse, which is just a few kilometers from the border with Germany

One person died and two police officers were injured after a knife attack in the French city of Mulhouse.

The suspect was arrested at the scene.

The man injured two police officers seriously, one in the neck and one in his chest. The passerby tried to intervene and was killed.

The suspect is a 37-year-old Algerian who was subject to deportation order because he was on the terrorism list, according to a local prosecutor. The prosecutor opened a terrorist investigation because the suspect allegedly shouted “Allah Akbar”.

The incident happened to a demonstration in favor of Congo, where the police were in the patrol.

“Horror seized our city,” Mayor Mulhouse Michele Lutz said on Facebook.

Interior Minister Bruno Retailleu is expected to visit the scene on Saturday night.
