Lobo, 31, came to the rescue of a drowning man during a training session on the coast of São Luís, Brazil, on Friday, January 10. “The day God used me as an instrument to save this young woman, all honor and glory to Him ☝🏻🙏🏻,” Lobo wrote in the description (translated from Portuguese) of the video he took of the incident via Instagram on Saturday, January 11. “We warn you about the dangers of the sea, rivers and all places you don’t know because the current is very strong in some places!”
Lobo explained that he went into the ocean around 17:40 local time “to do a final test” on his board camera. “It was a cloudy day, the wind was not the best, but I decided to try the support that arrived, it was the first day of using this material, I set the camera to record and headed for the coast,” he said.
He continued: “After sailing a few meters, I heard a cry for help and looked at the girl who was drowning. I quickly approached her with the kite, tried to calm her down and asked her to climb on my back. She was very tired and without strength.”
Lobo used his equipment to help bring the woman back to shore, where lifeguards helped her. “Thank God that everything went well 🙏🏻🙌🏻”, he concluded. “I am grateful for all the messages. I only did what had to be done and what was within my reach!”
In the video, Lobo quickly turned around after noticing the woman in the water. He got off his surfboard and ordered her to hold on to his back as he guided them to shore. Rescuers met the couple in shallow water and helped the woman to the beach, where she thanked Lobo for saving her with a hug.
The sport’s governing body World Sailing praised Lobo’s actions. “The woman met friends on the beach and left unharmed,” the organization wrote on Monday, January 13. Post on Instagram. “Lobo, an orthopedic doctor, humbly said, ‘I was just doing my duty and being in the right place at the right time.’ He also issued a vital reminder: ‘The sea is very dangerous and the tide can take you out.’ 🌊 Awesome Bruno 👏🫶.”
As Lobo made his Olympic debut Olympic Games in Paris 2024as well as the sport of kite surfing. Sports and other surfing events were held on the Tahitian island of Teahupo’o. Lobo did not land on the podium during the Games, but he placed seventh in the men’s kitesurfing event.

He added: “And as I always say, the journey is more important than the end! Thank you to everyone who made this possible, my family and friends, fans, sponsors and the multidisciplinary team who lived through all this with me.”
