Sometimes you don’t want a phone because of the little things. You want it to make the call and last through a busy day. Enter the Motorola Moto G line of budget devices, one of the main contributors to the company’s financial gains. High quality budget phones are all anyone has ever asked for. The Moto G and Moto G Power they’re refreshed with new processors and vibrant colors, and the Moto G Power also touts exceptional water resistance starting at $300.
The Moto G Power is the more attractive of the two budget phones, so we’ll start with it. The Moto G Power is IP69 rated—the same as the recently launched flagship phone, The OnePlus 13which posed a major issue as to whether you could withstand a wash in the dishwasher. Like OnePlus’ $900 phone, the Moto G Power can withstand deep submersion, high-pressure water jets, and higher water temperatures than most IP68-rated phones. It’s also completely protected from dust getting into the edges, which is nice considering Motorola kept the headphone jack on it.
This makes the Moto G Power one of the sturdiest smartphones you can get at this price point. It’s not that thick, although you do have to contend with the large 6.8-inch LCD, which might make the device a little too big for most users. At least the size means there’s enough battery inside. The 5,000 mAh battery should last quite a while on the Moto G Power, since it’s not a power-sucker either. When the phone is ready to be recharged, you can do so with the 30W battery or the 15W wireless charger.
The specs for the Moto G Power won’t top the latest Pixel A-series, but that’s how you’re going to get incredible battery life out of this thing. There’s the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 CPU, which is slightly faster than last season’s Moto G Power, along with 8GB of RAM. The phone has up to 128GB of storage and is accompanied by a microSD expansion slot—another rare feature available in Android land.
For smaller users – although not many – the Moto G is a 6.7-inch device with the same chipset, but with a meager 4 GB of RAM. It’s one of the cheapest Motorola phones you can buy that has all the essentials. On the plus side, it has the same 5,000mAh battery, making it a long-lasting phone for $200. But don’t drop it in the water; The Moto G only has a “water-resistant” design with an IP52 rating.
Both phones will be available for purchase at the end of the month.
