The the ongoing wildfires of the Pacific Palisades it can be especially difficult for individuals like Miley Cyruswho previously lost their property in similar natural disasters.
“This picture hits me hard in the heart today. This is a photo taken from my front porch in 2018 after we lost our house in the Woolsey fires,” Cyrus, 32, wrote on the social network message on Saturday, January 11, sharing a picture of the ruins. “It is a feeling that is never forgotten. Walking up to the door you would pass through every day, looking forward to being greeted by those you love as always, but instead you are met with a pile of ashes and rubble.”
Cyrus continued: “My soul aches for those who experience this devastation (sic) first hand and I weep for my city. More than heartbreaking. Los Angeles represents ‘living the dream’, but today’s reality is ruin and destruction.”
Grammy winner too he shared the link The Malibu Foundation, a nonprofit that helps victims rebuild after wildfires, and a handful of other GoFundMe campaigns for specific victims.
“Time, resources and commitment within and outside of our community will heal us, but for now, it hurts deeply,” Cyrus concluded in her Saturday note.
A series of wildfires broke out in Los Angeles on Tuesday, January 7, quickly destroying thousands of acres of property in the surrounding neighborhoods. Many celebrities and other residents lost their homes in the flames. Others, meanwhileleft the city limits following mandatory or voluntary evacuation orders.
It’s not publicly known if Cyrus’ current residence is affected by the ongoing natural disaster, but one of her previous homes burned to the ground in a fire in 2018. At the time, Cyrus was married to an actor Liam Hemsworth. (Cyrus and Hemsworth, 34, separated in 2019 and finalized their divorce the following year.)
“It’s been a heartbreaking few days. This is what is left of my house. Love,” Hemsworth she wrote via Instagram in November 2018, sharing a picture of her front porch and a “Love” sign. “Many people in Malibu and surrounding areas in California have also lost their homes and my heart goes out to everyone affected by these fires.”
He then continued, “Malibu is a strong community and this event will only make it stronger. Thanks to all the great local guys (who) helped prevent minor fires around my property. I love you guys. I love you, Malibu. Thank you to all the heroic firefighters across California.”
Cyrus and Hemsworth evacuated with their menagerie of pets.
“My brother Luke called and said, ‘Get ready, they’re going to issue an evacuation.’ The whole time I was packing these animals, I had moments where I thought, ‘They’re not going to make it this far; this is a waste of time, and my house won’t burn down,’ Hemsworth reminded of Men’s health in a 2020 profile “And of course it burned down and it was like… a thing to survive.”
While the couple and their animals were safe at the time, he added that “almost everything” was gone in the house was “replaceable up to a point”.
Three years later, Cyrus appeared as a reference their bond and fire in her 2023 Grammy-winning single “Flowers.”
“We were right until we didn’t / Built a home and watched it burn,” he sings in the opening stanza. “Mm, I didn’t want to leave you / I didn’t want to lie / I started to cry, but then I remembered / I can buy myself flowers.”
Cyrus and Hemsworth have since moved on with Max Morando and Gabriella Brooksrespectively.
