Rebecca Falcone is one of the most powerful characters on Landman — and in order to effectively present the litigant, Kayla Wallace had to do her research.
During an exclusive interview with Us WeeklyWallace, 31, devoted herself to watching real court trials to get the right venue for her role in Taylor Sheridandrama series. “I was really interested in the questioning and manipulation of how litigants get what they need from the questioning itself,” said the actress. Our. “I find it so fascinating. It is a whole art in itself.”
Not only did Wallace attend the trial in Fort Worth – where Landman was recorded – but she also looked to highly publicized trials on the Internet for inspiration.
“I’ve seen some famous cases (and) celebrity trials,” Wallace said Ournoting that it includes “both” OJ Simpson trial in 1995 and Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard trial 2022. She also looked again The People vs. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story: “That was very helpful.”
In episode 4, Rebecca proved her negotiating skills by demanding respect during a tense standoff with Tommy (Billy Bob Thornton). A dialogue-filled scene shows Rebecca fiercely telling a sexist lawyer, “Do you think they hired me because I’m pretty? I charge $900 an hour… and you’re about to find out why.”
Wallace admitted that the scene was “one of the biggest to tackle,” explaining, “I remember feeling like I was going to run a marathon at the end of the day.” Ultimately, she was proud of the result: “It was really wonderful to experience that I got to build that confidence in her and myself.”
for When the heart calls alumplaying Rebecca — “a powerful, strong, smart woman” — was a dream. As it turns out, the role was made for her, with Sheridan recasting the character after seeing Wallace audition for Ainsley, who she plays Michelle Randolph.
“I’m so honored that he saw everything he saw in me and believed in me, almost at a time when I didn’t believe in myself at first,” she said. Our. She doesn’t take being part of Sheridan’s successful television empire lightly either: “We all feel so lucky to have him at the helm of our ship.”
Working with Thornton, 69, was also a masterclass in acting. “It’s really inspiring to watch, and it makes shooting the scene so exciting because he’s so in the moment,” Wallace explained. “He’s such a professional and so incredibly talented – I’ve taken a lot from him.”
In the Season 1 finale, Rebecca faced a moral dilemma after being asked to renegotiate a $175 million farm lease that would include fracking. While there’s no word yet on a second season, Wallace hopes to continue bringing Rebecca’s story to life — and already knows where she’d like to find the “incredibly smart and shrewd negotiator.”
“As they said in episode 9, she’s not an oil and gas person — she’s a litigator with almost zero knowledge in this area, so I’m excited to see her navigate (a field) that she doesn’t know much about,” Wallace said. Our. “I also want to see who she is at the end of the day.”
“I’m ready for more,” she added. “I hope we get a chance.”
