The beauty of the subcasting is that everyone can do it. It is a rare medium that is almost as easy to make as consumption. And as such, no two people do it exactly the same way. There are many hardware and software solutions open to potential subcasters, so the settings are launching Gam from, for example, Studios to USB Skype Rigs (the latter of which became a kind of default during pandemic).
This week we talked to Jody Avirgan, who is a co -organizer “Summer Album / Winter Album” With the frontman of the American Indie rock band The Hold Stabiy, Craig Finn. Each episode reveals that Avirgan and Finn discuss whether the classic record should be categorized as “Summer Album” or “Winter Album”.
Avirgan-Koji was previously hosted by radio fellow shows, Ted, Fivethirtyeight and ESPN, he said to us about his subcasting. Here he is in his own words:
“Even when I worked in ESPN/FIVETHIRTYEIGH, I always had home -filming setup. From going – what happened to match the start of the pandemic – I made my basement studio my main home. It is actually the kitchen of the apartment in the basement, So it is only outside the frame, behind some curtains, refrigerator (irregular), sink and lots of cabinets.
“But I hung a tonne curtain, scattered soft things and put on some sound damping panels. I think it’s a pleasant and pretty warm sound now. My microphone is an electro-water re27n/D, a study microphone in the amount of $ 500.
“To be clear: I don’t make money from Re27. We bought this microphone when I hosted 30 for 30. I left ESPN three weeks before a pandemic hit, and somewhere there I wrote them e -mail asking if they wanted to return the microphone. I never got an answer and I certainly didn’t write tracking. So I kept it. This is probably the reason why Disney stock has fallen by 20% in the last five years. It’s a very warm microphone, but it’s Behemoth.
“When I am on the road, I pack the AT2020-USB+, which is inserted right into my computer and can knock out a monitoring from wherever one-in-the-class cover in the hotel wardrobe, which is a natural habitat of the Podcaster.
“I drive my microphone through Focusite Scarlett 2i2, a simple but powerful interface that allows me to control the microphone level and focus right into my computer, where I often join people over zu or river. I always shoot a local backup using Hindenburg, which I then save in Dropbox .
“One place I deviate from the typical Podcaster 101 set is in my headsets. Everyone has a Sony MDR-7506, and I went through my true share of these, but I really like the NTH-100 headphones. They are just a little more comfortable, they look like a little smooth, and so far the pillow has not spoiled the way that the pillow on Sony’s inevitably seems, which led to finding small black stain in ears after recording.
“Like a lot of Podcaster, I’ve been doing more and more video things lately. I have been using the descript for years, but as the sounds of sound and video have combined, at this point almost all of my editing. I make social videos about our conversations for”This day“AND”Summer album / winter album“But also the original things I played with on Instagram.
“I make a series every week where I am Try to hit the title That week’s headlines, I record it in the descriptive and turn it in about 20 minutes using the template I built. Description – I’m a big fan. It is very versatile and it is nice to work with a program that seems to be shit about what the Podcasterians want, unlike the protoal.
“I guess I had to think about my visual setting up of a fair amount. I bought a webcut that Wirecutter recommended, but honestly I prefer MacBook camera look, so I usually only use it. I put some books in my background to prove that I know how to read ; Signed by George Mikan’s photo of which there was a “death on the wing” – and 28 dollars of fake plants from Ikea.
“I block my eyes so I don’t think people can even see that the plants are there; but I like to know that they are there and that they will always be there because of the forever plastic.”
