Drone footage shows a fire at one of the world’s largest battery factories

A fire broke out in a Californian power plant that houses one of the largest battery storage facilities in the world.

A fire broke out in a building that housed lithium-ion batteries Thursday afternoon, a Monterey County Sheriff’s Office official said.

The Moss Landing power plant, operated by Vistra Corp, was evacuated, as were people in the surrounding area. There are no reports of injuries.

Officials are not actively fighting the fire, a Monterey sheriff’s spokesman said, and are instead leaving the building and batteries to burn on the advice of fire experts.
