Denmark will not give up Greenland for the US, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said during an official visit to the Arctic Island.
Responding to the repeated threats of Donald Trump, Frederixen offered a closer cooperation on safety, but he said to the US president, “You cannot attach other countries.”
Frederixen stood by Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen and his predecessor Mute Egeda in showing support and unity over US threats on Thursday.
Her three -day trip to the territory follows last week’s controversial visit to the US delegation led by Vice -President JD Vance, who is widely criticized by both Greenland and Denmark.

Frederixen rode around the capital of Nuuk in the patrol ship of the Danish Navy, with Egeda and Nielsen.

Egede, who was prime minister for almost four years, said the island worked with the US for almost 80 years – including the construction of a Pituffy space base after the 1951 -year -old agreement.

Trump first floated with the idea of buying Greenland during his first term – and his desire to own the island only grew over time.

In March, a new Greenland coalition government was formed, led by the Party of the Right Democrats in the Center, which favors a gradual approach to independence.
Polls show that the vast majority of Greenland also want to become independent of Denmark, but they do not want to become part of the US.
Since 2009, Greenland has had the right to call an independence referendum, although in recent years some political parties have started to push more for one.
