Along with James Gunn upcoming movieDC Comics offers a major change to the status quo, with a major gain from its prominent competition: like Brian Michael Bendis before him Castle Danlongtime writer for Marvel’s Spider-Man and Fantastic four comics, will take on the Man of Steel.

Slott will team up with artist Rafael Albuquerque and colorist Marcelo Maiola Superman Unlimited, a new monthly comic starting in May. Billed as the “driving force” for what will be the “Summer of Superman,” the book opens with an asteroid filled with green kryptonite crashing into Earth. In the statement for DCSlott said he, Albuquerque and Maiolo “will take Superman—and you—to places you’ll want to escape to every month. Millions of surprising ideas for him, Lois, the supporting cast, classic outlaws, as well as brand new friends and enemies.”

Superman unlimited will begin on May 21st and will be set up with a “zero issue” in DC’s Free Comic Book Day issue on May 3rd. According to DC, the “Summer of Superman” will include ongoing and limited edition books for fellow Supers like Supergirl, Superboy and Krypto.
