Shakur Stevenson sent a message today, letting ‘The Face of Boxing’ Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis know he won’t be playing A-side games, and he knows he B-side in negotiations with him. Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs) says he just wants to fight.
Payday Pursuit
This is a strategic move by WBC lightweight champion Shakura. He tells the media that he does not want to get a “50-50” deal, and he knows it’s the B-side. Shakur tries to trap Tank Davis making him weak in the eyes of fans and media.
Stevenson is trying to get the fans and the media to help him pressure Gervonta to shame him into a fight. It’s a clever ploy, but it shows Shakur’s desperation to get a unification and, more importantly, a payoff.
In the same interview, Stevenson said this about Tank: “It’s a struggle they will pay me a lot.” He was asked if he would be interested in fighting his friend, Keyshawn Davis, but said he is focused on Tank Davis because it will “pay him big.”
That’s why Shakur pursued Gervonta day and night for a fight. He wants a payday and he won’t see the same kind of money fighting anyone else in the lightweight division. Moreover, he might take a beating if he faced someone powerful enough to reach his chin. All of Shakur’s talk about wanting to fight Tank Davis to prove who’s the best, when in reality he only sees him as someone who’s going to give him a big payday.
That’s why he’s in such a hurry pursued Gervont nonstop to fight since 2023. He wants the money and he doesn’t want to earn it by fighting a rematch with Edwin De Los Santos or opposing his friend Keyshawn Davis or Andy Cruz. Instead of earning a fight against Tank Davis, Shakur used day and night method calling him out in every interview to push him.
“I’m not going to act like I’m the A-side or that I deserve 50-50. Let’s negotiate. Let’s see where it goes next,” Shakur Stevenson told YouTube’s Shawn Porter placeletting Gervonta Davis know that he will not try to gain an advantage in negotiations for the fight. “I know I’m the B-side, but let’s fight,” Stevenson said of Tank Davis.
