Turki Al-Sheikh has just announced that Ryan Garcia will fight former WBA light heavyweight champion Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero, Devin Haney will face Jose Ramirez and Martin Bakole will fight Efe Ajagba on the same card in May. This is expected to be shown on PPV from Times Square in New York.
Fights with three heads
- Ryan Garcia vs. Rolando Romero
- Devin Haney vs. Jose Ramirez
- Martin Bakole vs. Efe Ajagba
Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) got a tough fight against former WBA and WBO welterweight champion Jose Ramirez (29-2, 18 KOs). I wonder if this was a smart idea by Bill Haney to match Devin against this guy. He might regret taking this fight.
Rolly Romero (16-2, 13 KO) is a surprise opponent for Ryan, as Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz was the name he was rumored to fight. Romera is considered a one-hit wonder.
Cruz knocked out Rolly in the eighth round last year on March 30 in a title clash. That Ryan is fighting Rolly suggests that he doesn’t want to risk losing to him after a long 13-month hiatus.
It was a fight that fans would be excited about, but there would be a lot of risk for Garcia because Cruz could actually fight. Rolly has won two of his last four fights and some believe he would have lost a third had it not been for a freak stoppage in his fight against Ismael Barros in May 2023.
That’s where the referee suddenly stopped the fight after Rolly threw a series of punches, all of which hit the air. He then lifts Rolly’s arm in the air, giving him the knockout victory, while Barroso just stands there and says, ‘What’s going on here.’ The rematch wasn’t given to Barros, which made Rolly look even worse.
The Ring Magazine is excited to announce its first US boxing card this May 2025 in association with the video game Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves (after which the card will be named) and SNK Games.
