Anaheim, California-Oscar Duarte did what no one had done before: stop 26-year-old Miguel Madueño in the seventh round. As Oscar de la Hoya pointed out, not even a newly crowned champion in the lightweight category WBO Keyshawn Davis managed to stop Madueño last July.
This is the newly discovered Duarte, who, with world -renowned coach Robert Garcio, was on a constant climb to the world title. He was in the Honda Center to the fans played with his performance. For the latter, this would more than probably happen later in the future, because Garcia stated that he could not make 140 pounds. The barbose match would be easier to make because they both share the same promoter in Golden Boy.
The Barboza was divided earlier during the day by Jack Catterall, becoming a mandatory champion for WBO champion Teofimo Lopez. Duarte would like to face any champion in his division and stated that he is ready for them. He could build a CV worth of title if he continued on this trajectory. He matches the WBA champion well, Jose Valenzuel, but they share the same coach, Roberta Garcia. Dealing with stable games may not be on cards.
Another potential option could be the WBC Championship, Alberto Puello will face Sandor Martin on March 1 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Duarte seems to be determined to invest a job necessary to become a champion. He stated that he would take a few days off to rest and then return to the gym to train. He wants to be ready for whoever de la Hoya fits the next.
Regis Programis was an original opponent, but could not compete due to the injury he suffered at the camp. Duarte seemed very prepared and the program would have won if he had faced him in the ring. Robert Garcia knows how to get his fighters out best and improve them. Duarte will improve with Robert only, and a championship match appears on the horizon.
